Antique
Study Day III

Maintenance of Antique Furniture through the Conservation
and Repair of an Antique Finish.

Either seen as a follow-on course
or attended independently the day covers the correct
use of materials and procedures in conservation and
restoration using traditional French Polishing (or Finishing)
skills. Like
Antique Study Day II, guests bring an item or piece
of furniture (structurally sound), which has a finish
in need of attention or maintenance. Working under the
supervision of resident craftsman, guests learn how
to identify period finishes and are instructed on the
sympathetic cleaning and revival of an antique finish.
The session
covers the reduction and removal of ring marks and
the method of applying shellac and beeswax correctly. The
single day course costs £75.00 per person and
includes lunch and refreshments.
