Champagne and Antiques Evening at Wheathills
Over
50 guests took part in a wonderfully relaxed fund raising
evening for Ecclesbourne School, sampling a fascinating
array of quality Champagnes, informative talks and an
auction of Antiques with all proceeds going to the school.
The evening, which was hosted by Country House Heritage
Events at Wheathills, was the perfect setting allowing
guests to wander through the elegant showrooms and see
first hand the ongoing restoration of a Georgian country
house.
Guests arrived to the welcoming sound
of the Ecclesbourne School Band playing a diversity of
music from modern jazz to classical before settling down
to hear the opening address from Mr Philip Hall, Deputy
Head for Ecclebourne School. Nigel Heldreich the owner
of Wheathills continued the evening with a talk on the
restoration of Wheathills before Mr Athias of Columbier
Wines began his fascinating introduction to Champagne.
By contrast our celebrity auctioneer, Charles Hanson from
Wintertons, offered a more sobering talk on the history
of tea drinking.
The evening got into full swing
with a wonderful buffet and Champagne tasting with over
10 Champagnes to choose from before the competitive part
of the evening started. First, the Antiques Quiz covered
questions from earlier talks - the main prize being four
Antique Study Days at Wheathills before commencing the
much awaited Auction of some 15 lots - including a pair
of 18th Century engravings and brass sculpture. All items
were strongly contested before the hammer fell for the
last time clocking up around £800 for school
funds.
