Bespoke Hand-Made
Radiator Covers By Wheathills
 |
Our radiator covers
are created in the form of genuine pieces of furniture.
Hand-made from stable |
| laminate board
and traditionally hand veneered using reversible
animal glues and interesting exotic timbers. |
This example of a Biedermeier style has been veneered
in quilted Maple; the veneer is initially soaked in
order to become supple, and laid onto the base wood
with the use of a veneering hammer. The cabinet body
is vented to the top with the veneer being book-matched
for effect. The 3 facing edges are veneered with vertical
grain to an apron divided by ebonised Mahogany mouldings
to a panel of horizontal veneer.
The faux doors are created from single
sections of timber for stability and the illusion of
a pair of doors has been created with the laying of
the veneers to simulate a mortise and tennon appearance.
Each door has been trimmed with ebonised Mahogany and
fitted with elliptical brass mesh in the form of a Biedermeier
chiffonier. A subtle piano hinge has been fitted to
the base of the doors to enable access to the radiator
within. The whole piece is supported by a deep plinth
again laid on solid mahogany and ebonised in the detail..

All surfaces are decorated,
the front and sides are of equal standing in quality
and craftsmanship and as most radiators are placed
in prominent positions in a home. Creating a piece
in this manner allows it to stand alone as a beautiful
piece of furniture in its own right. |
