Bookcase, Occasional
Table, and Dresser
Working
closely with the client who had personally designed the
items of furniture, each piece was built to a traditional
style, using traditional methods and materials, yet designed
to perform a practical modern day function.
The Occasional Table is constructed in
solid walnut and veneered in burr walnut throughout, in
a quarter cut design. The
mouldings are cross-grained to enhance the grain effect
and the piece is strung throughout with walnut feather
banding.
The Bookcase is constructed in solid
mahogany and veneered through the whole piece in flame
mahogany. The lower drawers conceal a larger cupboard behind
and the two top drawers form a Secretaire, which encloses
the drinks cabinet over which the elegant glazed display
cabinet is supported by matched barley twist columns. The
whole piece stands on out-splayed bracket feet.
The
Dresser is constructed from solid oak with pippy oak veneer
on the drawers and solid panel doors. The glazed section
above has individual panes of glass housed in swirling
astragal mouldings.
All three pieces have been traditionally
French Polished and burnished with an oil and beeswax composition.
The handles were handcrafted and all timbers and veneers
were selected to produce a magnificent visual effect. |
